Pay Range: $82,500-$150,000/ Year


Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP is seeking a full-time New York State admitted attorney for our labor and employment practice group. This position would be based out of our Binghamton, New York office.


Coughlin & Gerhart proudly dates back to the 1890s and has grown to include seven offices in New York and one in Pennsylvania. We offer numerous highly experienced and skilled attorneys, diverse practice areas, and a core belief that everyone who seeks the services of a lawyer deserves to be treated as a priority, from the time they meet with us in an initial consultation, to when their legal matter is resolved.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Advise and counsel clients on a wide array of labor and employment issues; research and analyze relevant labor and employment law issues; draft correspondence, pleadings, memoranda, policies and contracts.
  2. Represent employers in administrative hearings and proceedings including grievance arbitrations, relating employee discipline, GML 207 disability claims, and collective bargaining agreement disputes.
  3. Defend employers in state and federal courts on a wide array of labor and employment matters, including wage and hour, restrictive covenant, discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower, and employment tort claims.
  4. Represent employers in collective bargaining negotiations, mediation, interest arbitration proceedings before PERB, and unfair labor/improper practice proceedings before the NLRB and PERB.
  5. Defend municipal determinations in Article 78 proceedings; move to stay arbitration and vacate or confirm arbitration awards.
  6. Train clients’ supervisors and employees on human resource compliance; present at seminars and webinars on labor and employment matters; and draft labor and employment newsletter articles.

  3. Excellent verbal communication and advocacy skills.
  4. Ability to perform quick and reliable research.
  5. Strong analytical, research and writing skills.
  6. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and convey information effectively in person, by email and telephone.
  7. Committed to legal profession and teamwork approach.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current New York Bar admission.
  2. Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  3. Desire to develop and further legal skills.
  4. 1+ years of experience preferred.
  5. Admission in NDNY, WDNY, SDNY, and EDNY is preferred, but not necessary at time of hire.
